6 months ago I moved over to the Iphone to see how the phone has progressed since owning the 2g and 3g versions. Originally I switched to Android because it simply has more customization and supported the standards I wanted to use without waiting 1 or 2 years. Some years later the Iphone has improved in this area but is stll lacking compared to the Android platform. One of the features the Iphone had early on is the visual voicemail app. It provided a convenient and easy way to see what voicemail's you have, listen to your voicemail's and create a custom greetings. Recently my voicemail notifications and quite frankly my voicemail's altogether have not been showing up. If I happen to reboot my phone the voicemail's will show up as unknown and the length of time is at 0 seconds. This is a serious issue and has caused me to miss quite a few important phone calls so I set out to find a solution to this problem.
Scoured the internet to see if anyone has found a solution to this problem. There are many people offering advice how to fix the issue however none of the suggestions worked for me. I reset my network settings on the phone, this fixed the problem temporarily but is not a valid solution. Having to reset my network settings every few days and re-entering my WIFI credentials is just a pain and not something I am willing to do. As mentioned earlier rebooting my phone brought the messages to the light but having to reboot my phone just to see what voicemail's I have is silly. I suppose I could simply dial voicemail from the phone app but this would defeat the convenience of the visual voicemail APP. After trying the potential solutions to fix the issue none of them were a permanent fix so I set out to find an work around. This prompted me to find Youmail, a visual voicemail alternative for the Iphone and other cell phones. Youmail functions similar to to the Iphone voicemail but also has additional functionality. For me seeing the voicemail popup allowing me to conveniently click on the message and listen is all that I needed. There are other voicemail alternatives out there for example Google Voice but this didn't quite provide the functionality I was looking for. I really do like the Iphone visual voicemail and the way it works so I wanted something that would replicate or exceed the functionality.
In conclusion the Youmail voicemail APP exceeds the functionality of the Iphone voicemail and also adds the bonus of actually working. Not sure if I will remove the Youmail APP if and when apple decides to fix its voicemail application but one thing is for certain, Youmail is a good alternative to the Iphone visual voicemail APP while it is not working reliably.
