Searching for a way to open the bottom of this notebook to install RAM and replace the hard drive produced different results. Some people tried to explain how to open the bottom in a message missing steps, some referenced the HP manual that displayed compartments that just didn't exist (references a panel on the bottom of the notebook), and others talk about unscrewing boards from the notebook. In reality the process is very simple and just requires accurate information so you know what to do. There is no compartment on the bottom and you do not need to unscrew boards in the notebook. Once I show you how to do this you will say, wow that was easy. Read on for the process.
There are two major steps in replacing the RAM and hard drive in the notebook.
Remove all the screws in the bottom of the notebook. There are a total of 12 screws that need to be removed. 2 are under the battery compartment, 1 under the left rear rubber foot, 1 under the right rear rubber foot and the remaining 8 screws are in plain sight on the bottom.
Once the screws on the bottom have been removed you now need to separate the bottom part of the notebook body from the top (keyboard). This is done by gently prying the two pieces apart using something thin and plastic. My tool of choice was an old credit card. See the photo below, the red arrow is where the two parts are separated. gently slide the card around the body once you have the card between the two parts. When the bottom has been pried from the body remove it and everything you need is right there. There are no boards or other things required to disassemble except a couple screws to remove the hard drive.
