We are testing fuel system cleaners. Experimental - four drugs. At the same time, we compared the effect of using these agents and gasoline with detergents.
If the engine has lost its former playfulness, but has gained appetite and started to start badly , then the diagnostician at the service station will almost certainly say that the nozzles are clogged, and will advise them to wash or change them altogether. But change is expensive. Maybe the truth rinse? And not on the service, but independently - filling the fuel system tank in the tank.
We found four drugs: Liqui Moly and Autoprofi Line (Germany), Hi-Gear (USA) and domestic Suprotek.
A reasonable question: why buy some kind of potion, if there are branded gasolines on sale, which, as advertising says, should clean the engine? Yes, gasoline may contain detergents, although the regulatory documents for fuel do not contain the relevant requirements. And not everywhere such gasoline is sold. In addition, they are more expensive. And the task of detergents is not to wash at all, but to prevent the formation of deposits. Contaminated engine when using these additives should not be contaminated even more, but nobody promises to reduce the level of sediments. In general, Lukoil Ecto A95 ‑ K5 gasoline - with detergent additives — got the fifth drug in the company.
DO NOT WEAR GASOLINE?
Before testing, we decided to make sure that the introduction of additional additives in high-quality gasoline will not lead to its damage. To do this, they prepared control samples by injecting the preparations into gasoline according to the recommendations of the manufacturers, and took them to a certified laboratory - to find out if the cleaners contained something prohibited by the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union. In addition, they checked how the additive cleaner affects the octane number of gasoline.
Results - in the table. They turned out to be quite positive. Only the Hi-Gear cleaner is notable: a small amount of tar appears in the gasoline after adding it. Presumably, this is a lubricant additive: in the description of the drug stated improvement in this ability of gasoline. By the way, in normalizing documents there is no such parameter for gasoline - it is important only for diesel fuel.
All preparations increased the content of bound oxygen in gasoline, but it was still very far from the marginal rate (2.7%). The increase in oxygen content indicates the presence of additional oxygenates in the composition of the cleaners, designed to improve the combustion of fuel. And this is a prerequisite for high-temperature cleaning of engine parts. To a slightly greater extent, this feature was manifested in the cleaner "Suprotec". It is important not to go over this parameter: an excess of bound oxygen in the fuel can confuse the engine management system.
Special solvents fight deposits in the “cold” part of the engine. Indeed, after the addition of additives, the pH level in gasoline increased markedly. The leader here is the Hi-Gear cleaner, it’s not for nothing that it is called “fast.” But an increase in acidity can affect the life of seals in the fuel system. Therefore, its moderate increase in the purifiers Liqui Moly and Suprotek, apparently, is more justified. The main thing: the experimental drugs do not contain anything forbidden - neither methanol, nor metals, nor benzene; The change in octane number does not exceed the limits of measurement error.
Motor tests showed: all the tested drugs work. The mass of deposits on the parts, formed with the reference pollution, has significantly decreased. For a thorough cleaning, it would probably take more time. Since the normal operating conditions of the engine are tougher than the laboratory ones, the real efficiency of the cleaner should be higher. But we did not specifically go to the limit modes: it is necessary to analyze the effectiveness of the preparations themselves, eliminating the factor of temperature self-cleaning, which works independently.
The leaders were Liqui Moly and our "import substitution" - cleaner "Suprotek". In load modes, cleaning with these drugs reduced fuel consumption by an average of 3.5–4%, and in idling modes, the effect increased to 7–8%. In exhaust gases, the content of residual hydrocarbons has noticeably decreased, and this is one of the important indicators of engine pollution.
And what did gasoline show? Long-term tests on ordinary gasoline without any cleaners did not reveal any pronounced tendency. But with Lukoil Ecto gasoline, the quality of combustion started to improve: fuel consumption and CH content at control points decreased. Therefore, after all he washes. However, improvement is only after a certain point. At the beginning of the test cycle, we generally received a deterioration in the operation of the motor: deposits began to actively leach out of the fuel system, which spoiled the process of mixing. But then the positive dynamics was clearly manifested, and by the end of the tests, the indicators stabilized at a significantly better level than before the start of tests of the polluted engine.
Gasoline Lukoil Ecto works about as additives, but much softer. It seems that the principle of action of the cleaners is the same as that of detergent additives of commercial gasoline, but the effect is enhanced by a higher concentration.
A weight analysis of the details confirms these findings: the cleaners provided a more noticeable reduction in sediment mass than Lukoil Ecto gasoline. Most of the sediments during the test went into the exhaust pipe, and the best results showed the leaders in motor performance - Liqui Moly and Suprotek.
